PRP/Stem Cell Facial Treatment
We utilize growth factors from a small simple blood draw from your arm vein in our office to enhance the quality of your skin. This Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment is the same technology used to enhance healing of high performance athletes. After the growth factors are isolated and concentrated your face is gently treated with a process called microneedling. A gentle pen is swept across wrinkled areas with a penetration of only a millimeter or so. There is very little discomfort involved. This opens your skin so that the PRP can be massaged in and penetrate deeply.
Collagen production is increased to fill in wrinkles naturally. The sensation afterward is of a mild sunburn. You will be able to work or engage in other activities the next day with no pain and little if any redness. Three treatments a month apart are performed and last more than a year. There are no needles or injections.
Unlike more aggressive procedures there is no chance of causing an artificial look. The growth factors are simply turning back the clock to what your own skin used to look like. In addition to PRP, stem cell treatments are also available, again from your own body. Nothing foreign or artificial is used.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do your procedures rejuvenate skin?
A: We use microneedling to allow the growth factors from PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) or stem cells to gain access to the blood flow to the skin to help increase the amount of collagen in the skin.
Q: What is PRP?
A: PRP, platelet rich plasma, is produced by drawing a small amount of blood. It is then centrifuged to remove the red blood cells. Then it is processed to concentrate the platelets in a small amount of plasma and activate them.
Q: Do you use stem cells or PRP from cadavers or other sources?
A: No we only use your own tissue - for reason of safety and efficacy.
Q: Are your procedures FDA approved?
A: Yes we follow strict FDA guidelines for our procedure. In fact, I recently participated in the FDA stem cell national workshop in Washington DC.
Q: Are there any Risks?
A: Any procedure has a theoretical risk of infection. However we have never had one nor seen one reported, and no patient has had an adverse event of any kind outside of the mild transient facial soreness - akin to a mild sunburn.
Q: Why do use microneedling and not injection with needles?
A: Two Reasons. First superficial microneedling is exceedingly safe and nearly painless. Secondly, we have had excellent results with microneedling and have no reason to have our patients incur the extra pain and risk of injection with needles.
Q: Why don't you use pharmaceutical compounds/drugs in your procedures?
A: Same two reasons. First, all drugs have a possibility of reactions, and some severe side effects have been report Second, we do not believe we can improve our results by using them.
Q: Is sedation required?
A: No. We use only a mild topical anesthetic to numb the skin. No sedation is needed and we specifically avoid the use of drugs because they bring their own risks and side effects.
